"These lecture notes are the direct result of three very separate but very effective forces.
First, the Werner F. Dornfield Assembly No. 3 of The Society of American Magicians asked me to lecture. They selected the date of February 15,
1974 fully expecting, as did I, that "The Ring and Rope Book" would be completed by that time.
Unfortunately, my marketing research business decided to boom and the expected slow December-January did not develop - quite the contrary!
These two forces combined to pressure me into developing some hasty notes.
Finally, Jay Marshall, my good friend and publisher, urged me to let him have the lecture notes to sell. Since I again did not have the time to do the job I wished on the notes, I compromised with him and gave away the original notes (to those
at the lecture, to selected friends and the bulk to Jay as trading material ) and developed these notes you now hold in mid-April for eventual sale.
It is hoped that those of you who buy these notes will ultimately purchase the book. You will find a great deal of original, visual magic - magic for virtually any performing
situation, virtually any audience! It is hoped only that you give the effects the handling practice they require and deserve, and that you will not burden your audience with too many similar effects at any one time."
